America in Cricket

- A Featured Article by Karthik Narayan

The headlines in Daily Newspapers across the world would focus every single edition on what is going on in the “World”. D-uh! So what’s so special about that, u would ask now…!! The World means America, and nothing else??

The Numero Uno Nation in this Planet, by all means, World leader in Olympics. The recently concluded Athens edition was no surprise… USA took honors yet again!

Having conquered the “rest of the world”, this great country sets foot in the game of cricket!!!!!! Will wonders ever cease to amaze me..!!!

A new team brings joy, no doubt, to one and all. A new team brings in new cheering, new heroes, a new breed altogether…

United States Of America (USA) Squad:

  • Howard Johnson
  • Aijaz Ali
  • Mark Johnson
  • Leon Romero
  • Richard Staple
  • Nasir Javed
  • Charles Reid
  • Zamin Amin
  • Naseer Islam
  • Rohan Alexander
  • Rashid Zia
  • Steve Massiah
  • Clayton Lambert
  • Imran Awan

In USA, the game of cricket is said to have originated in this land of great athletes, the name Clayton Lambert does strike an odd chord.  Wasn’t that the name of a Player who played for WI?? If my memory serves me good, it is that very person! One finds mostly Asian names in that squad, which very much denotes that it has been framed by Asians.

In the city of Bridgewaters in the US of A, the game has been really on the rise, the Americans have been showing keen interest in this version of the Baseball, their National Game for all seasons!

There are a number of cricket enthusiasts mainly from Asia, who have started this rise for the Americans.. They have formed Clubs, unofficially, and play a 20:20 type of cricket on a baseball ground converted to play cricket. Cricket has been rising over the years all right, but how are they going to be facilitated?? Cricket surely is infectious, but the back support of these “one-time” International teams leaves much to be desired!

However, here’s wishing this new team all the very best and a warm welcome into the World of Cricket.
