Debutant fast bowler Pat Cummins claimed superb figures of 6 for 79 tp help Australia restrict SA to 339 and thus settle to a realistic target of 310 runs in the second and final Test at Jonannesburg. Australia got off to a solid platform at 142 for 3 in 37 overs in their run chase thanks to half centuries from Ricky Ponting (54*) and one down Usman Khawaja (65 from 110 balls with 8 fours and a six). The pair rescued Australia from a precarious position of 19 for 2.

Earlier, South Africa were bowled out for 339 in 110 overs. Hashim Amla who started the day’s proceedings on 89* was dismissed by Johnson for 110. Amla’s 110 came in 243 balls with 10 fours. Another overnight batsman AB de Villiers who was on 70 could only add three more runs before getting removed by Cummins. There was a useful cameo of 41 (from 64 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes) from Dale Steyn which was responsible in stretching the target to a competitive 310.
