Indian
Selectors sprung a surprise on Thursday by naming a
19-year-old in the Indian One Day Squads for the Sri Lanka
Series and the Champions Trophy. The new youngster who has
been included in the Indian team is the dashing Delhi and
Bangalore Royal Challengers' batsman - Virat Kohli. The
Selectors have axed Robin Uthappa, leggie Piyush Chawla and
Yusuf Pathan from both the squads.
Fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been rested
for the 5-ODI Series against Sri Lanka. Ishant figures in the
squad for the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan. Wicket
Keeper Parthiv Patel and pacer Munaf Patel, who are a part
of the present Test Squad have been retained
for the following One Day Series which kick off from 18th of
August. There is a return for Zaheer Khan as expected in the
One Day teams.
Virat Kohli's inclusion comes after his
impressive show down under for India in the Emerging Players
tournament last month. His real fame came when he successfully
led the India U-19 team to Title victory in the last U-19
World Cup in Malaysia. Kohli is known for his hard-hitting and
is gifted with some natural aggression just like his Delhi
teammates Sehwag and Gambhir.
