August 11, 2008
Sachin
Tendulkar has been ruled out of the upcoming One Day Series
against Sri Lanka because of the elbow injury that he
sustained during the third test in Colombo. Tamil Nadu's
Subramaniam Badrinath has been named as Tendulkar's
replacement. Tendulkar had jarred his left elbow onto the
ground in an awkward fashion while trying to take a diving
catch at leg slip on the third day of the final test at the P
Sara Stadium.
Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of
action for two to three wickets according to the BCCI.
Incidentally even before the last One Day Series, the little
master was out of action because of injury which was during
the Tri Series in Bangladesh and the Asia Cup. Tendulkar's
last ODI Series was in Australia where he did
play his part in India winning the Tri-Series. It is a big
blow for all the Tendulkar fans as Sachin misses the
opportunity to settle scores with Ajantha Mendis, who has had
the better of him in the Test Series. Tendulkar was expected
to become the highest run scorer in Test Cricket during the
Sri Lankan Test Series but he found that the going too tough
and finds himself 77 runs short of the landmark. Sachin is
expected to return on time for the Champions Trophy which
starts next month.
Sachin's replacement S Badrinath has been a
classy right handed batsman who is well equipped with all
shots in the book. The 27-year-old has been a seasoned
campaigner in the Indian Domestic Circuit with a prolific
average of over 55.00 while scoring 15 centuries since his
debut way back in 2000/01. Badrinath has grown up to become
the Captain of his state side, a regular for India A and most
recently has been part of the Chennai Super Kings.
