Bengal's
goal of getting promoted back to the Elite Group from the
Plate has received a huge boost after they successfully got
Spin King Muttiah Muralitharan in their ranks. The highest
wicket taker in Tests is going to provide his services for
about four games for Bengal in the upcoming Plate Championship
that kicks off from November 3rd. Bengal had a rough season
last year after a few players had left for the ICL and as a
result the team couldn't match up to its previous
achievements.
The Ranji Trophy Plate Championship has not
been hugely followed so far but with the likes of Sourav
Ganguly and
Muttiah Muralitharan likely to feature together
for Bengal, the tournament certainly will gets its share of
media attention. Muralitharan has already got the necessary
clearances to play for Bengal which he will unless there is a
any clash with his international commitments with Sri Lanka.
While he does play for Bengal in the Ranji, Murali will
feature in another team - Chennai Super Kings in the Champions
League which is during December. The BCCI has now allowed an
overseas player to be signed up by the State Boards as Guest
Players in the Ranji season in addition of 3 outstation
players.
It has been a change of guard as far as
Cricket Association of Bengal is concerned compared to the
last season. Jagmohan Dalmiya is back as the President.
Dalmiya has appointed Former India all rounder Mohinder
Amarnath in a consulting role while making former India and
Benga left arm spinner Utpal Chatterjee as the Coach.
