Chennai Super Kings defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs

Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs (Scorecard) in a high scoring affair at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Asked to bat first, CSK piled up a huge total of 202 for 4 in 20 overs with its two destructive batsmen – Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni firing on all cylinders.

Suresh Raina scored 84 from 57 balls with 9 fours and a six. MS Dhoni, who came in with his side well placed at 115 for 3 in 14.1 overs, went onto smash his half century in just 16 balls.  Dhoni remained unbeaten on 63 from 19 balls with a four and 8 sixes. For the Sunrisers, Dale Steyn and JP Duminy managed to escape the carnage and also took two wickets each.

Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a stiff fight at the start of its innings and at the end of it but lost out in the middle overs. A strong opening start of 87 in 9.2 overs made the run chase look promising. But four wickets down in succession to ensure a CSK victory although Darren Sammy had other ideas. Sammy went down fighting scoring 50 from 25 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. Sunrisers Hyderabad came close to the target by ending up with 190 for 7. Amongst the CSK bowlers, Jason Holder and Dwayne Bravo took a couple of wickets each.
