England are on the backfoot in the Second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval having already lost Skipper Alastair Cook cheaply in reply to Australia’s mammoth first innings total of 570. The tourists are 35 for 1 in 21 overs at the close of Day 2 with Michael Carberry on 20* with Joe Root, who is on 9*. Alastair Cook was cleaned up by Mitchell Johnson for just 3 in the 3rd over.

It was an evenly poised contest when the second day started with the Aussies resuming at 273 for 5. However, the pair of Skipper Michael Clarke and Wicket Keeper Brad Haddin took the game away from England with a huge 200-run partnership. Clarke, who resumed on 48* in the morning went onto add 100 more runs. The 32-year-old Aussie Captain scored his 26th Test century. His 148 came in 245 balls with 17 fours. Brad Haddin helped himself to a 4th Test century while finishing with 118 from 177 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes.

England were later assaulted by no.10 Ryan Harris who smashed them apart with an unbeaten 55 from just 54 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. The Aussies declared their first innings at 570 for 9 having kept England on the field for 158 overs.
