Description unavailableAustralia regained the Ashes with a crushing 150-run victory in the Third Test at the WACA in Perth. The Aussies have taken an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the 5-match Ashes Series.

On a fast and bouncy track, Australia did well to post 385 in their first innings thanks to a brilliant century from Steven Smith (111 from 208 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes). Brad Haddin contributed 55 while David Warner scored an attacking 60. For England, Stuart Broad took three wickets while there were a couple of wickets each for James Anderson and Graeme Swann.

The match tilted in Australia’s favour after Skipper Alastair Cook departed with a careless cut shot off Nathan Lyon having worked hard to reach 72. England were bowled out for just 251 in their first innings to concede a heavy lead of 134 runs. Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle picked up three wickets for the hosts.

Australia in their second innings closed the match with David Warner (112 from 140 balls with 17 fours and 2 sixes) and Shane Watson (103 from 108 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes) smashing centuries. To add salt to injury was George Bailey taking the struggling James Anderson apart with 28 runs from one over to equal Brian Lara’s record of scoring the most number of runs in a single over in Test Cricket.

The Aussies declared their second innings at 369 for 6. England was left with an improbable target of 504 with the Aussies having plenty of time to bowl them out. Things didn’t improve for England in this horrendous tour with Skipper Alastair Cook out for a golden duck. When Kevin Pietersen got out for 45, the writing was on the wall with England slipping to 121 for 4. The match was dragged into the final day courtesy of a spirited knock from newbie Ben Stokes.

On the final day, England were bowled out for 353 with left-handed Ben Stokes managing to score his maiden Test Century. Stokes scored 120 in 195 balls with 18 fours and a six. Mitchell Johnson took four wickets and Nathan Lyon did well to take three wickets. The Man of the Match was Steven Smith for setting up the match for the Aussies with his first innings ton.
