South Africa having picked up a 62-run first innings lead slipped to a precarious for 46 for 4. Hashim Amla came up with a brilliant 7th century along with AB de Villiers (64) to rescue the Proteas from that losing position. The pair added 119 runs for the 5th wicket. When Amla got out on 100 (from 213 balls with 10 fours), South Africa reached 266 for 7.

Mark Boucher scored an unbeaten 63 along with Morne Morkel (22*) to take SA to a relatively safe lead of 363 to declare the innings. Anderson created the jitters taking four of the 7 wickets to fall. England lost the wicket of their Captain Strauss to Morkel in the 6 overs of play before stumps on Day 4 and are at 11 for 1.
