Paul Collingwood MirpurEngland had to work slightly hard to beat Bangladesh in the first ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur by 6 wickets. Chasing a moderate target of 229 on a placid pitch, England achieved the target in 46 overs after a few tremors. Paul Collingwood guided the visitors with a well paced 75 not out (from 100 balls with 7 fours). England’s new Skipper Alastair Cook had provided the early momentum with a 68-ball 64.

Earlier in the afternoon, opener Tamim Iqbal was the lone man fighting for Bangladesh with a superb 125 from 120 balls with 13 fours and 3 sixes. Tamim got the Man of the Match award. On the other hand, Graeme Swann was brilliant yet again for England with 3 for 32 in 10 overs. For Bangladesh, Naeem Islam picked up three wickets.
