India suffered its second ODI Series defeat abroad after going down to New Zealand today at Hamilton. The Kiwis lead the 5-match series 3-0 following today’s 7-wicket win at the Seddon Park.

Batting first, India despite a slow start managed to post 278 on the board. Rohit Sharma riding on his luck did well to score 79. Skipper MS Dhoni with 79 not out and Ravindra Jadeja with 62 not out got India enough runs on the board to defend.

However, the Indian new ball bowlers made things easy for the Kiwis who got off to a flier. Ross Taylor helped himself to a 9th ODI century and with support from Kane Williamson and Brendon McCullum got the Kiwis home comfortably.

In the post match press conference, India Skipper MS Dhoni admitted that dropping Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina was a mistake. It is difficult to understand Dhoni’s thinking as both Dhawan and Raina haven’t performed well in the recent times.

One of their replacements – AT Rayudu certainly deserved an opportunity which he used reasonably to play a crucial innings. The other replacement Stuart Binny was slated in as low as no.8 much below R Ashwin! Stuart Binny was hardly used with the ball with Dhoni giving him just the one over.
