India’s target to win the Second ODI at Durban is 281 from 49 Overs. Once again the Indians had to struggle against a big opening stand from Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla. Both the openers scored centuries while piling up an opening stand of 194 in 35.1 overs. The 20-year-old Quinton de Kock registered his 3rd ODI century, all the three coming in the last 30 days or so! For the 30-year-old Hashim Amla, it was his 12th ODI century.

India did fightback after breaking the huge opening stand with the pitch starting to take turn. R Ashwin got into his own finishing with figures of 1 for 48 in 9 overs. Ravindra Jadeja bowled out 10 overs for 49 besides having AB de Villiers stumped out by MS Dhoni. Mohammed Shami was once again amongst the wickets, taking 3 for 48 in 8 overs. Umesh Yadav spoiled India’s chances somewhat by going for as many as 20 runs off the last over of the innings.

The first wicket for SA fell at the start of the batting powerplay with Quinton de Kock sweeping Ashwin flat into the hands of backward squareleg. Quinton de Kock scored 106 from 118 balls with 9 fours. Hashim Amla finished with 100 from 117 balls with 8 fours, caught behind off Mohammed Shami after bottom edging his pull off a bouncer.

Mohammed Shami took two more wickets – David Miller lbw to a skidding inswinger and Jacques Kallis getting his leg stump cleaned up by a yorker. India also got the key wicket in the final overs with the busy JP Duminy getting run out for a 29-ball 26. South Africa seemed to have lost their way towards the end but went onto score 280 for 6 thanks to Ryan McLaren’s cameo of 12* with a four and a six.
