South Africa are half way through in winning the first ODI at Johannesburg having piled up a tall total of 358 for 4. MS Dhoni’s decision of bowling first backfired as the hosts put on a big opening stand of 158. While Hashim Amla scored 65 (from 88 balls), his opening partner Quinton de Kock carried on to score his 2nd ODI century. De Kock finished with a knock of 135 from 121 balls with 18 fours and 3 sixes.

With de Kock setting up a solid base, the pair of AB de Villiers and JP Duminy pounded the Indian bowling in the death. AB de Villiers scored a brilliant 77 from just 47 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes. JP Duminy justified his promotion ahead of David Miller by blasting a fifty in just 25 balls. Duminy blasted 5 sixes and 2 fours to score an unbeaten 59 from 29 balls.

The most impressive bowler for India was Mohammed Shami but even he wasn’t spared in the slog overs. Shami finished with 3 for 68 in 10 overs although one has to say that he did bowl superbly in his first two spells.
