MS DhoniIndia crushed New Zealand by a huge margin of 117 runs in yesterday’s warm-up match at Chennai. Batting first, India piled up 360 for 5 in 50 overs thanks to a blistering 108 not out from just 64 balls by the Skipper MS Dhoni. The carnage from Dhoni contained 11 fours and 3 sixes after coming in at no.5.

Three other batsmen apart from Dhoni delivered the goods as well – no.3 Gautam Gambhir with 89 from 85 balls (with 11 fours), Virat Kohli (59 from 68 balls with 7 fours) and the most destructive knock coming in from Suresh Raina who blasted 50 from 26 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

New Zealand were never quite in the game during the second half and although they were off to a decent start, wickets began to fall down in a heap. The Kiwis slipped from 118 for 1 at the start of the 20th over to 197 for 7 in the next 15 overs or so. They were eventually bowled out for 243 in 43.1 overs with only opener Brendon McCullum (58 from 54 balls with 7 fours) coming up with a half century.

India’s bowling attack was dominated by the spinners with Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla all of them coming up with two wickets each. The pacers found nothing from the pitch to come up with respectable figures.
