India smashed its way to 535 for 4 at Lunch on Day 2 of the Kanpur Test with Rahul Dravid scoring a strokeful 144. The homeside will be looking to reach 700 as quickly as possible before declaring their innings and leave Sri Lanka a few difficult overs to negotiate today.

After a commanding first day’s play, India had a cakewalk resuming at 417 for 2. Rahul Dravid eased his way to a 28th Test hundred and Sachin Tendulkar missed out on a fifty after a miscued lofted shot off Mendis just prior to drinks. Tendulkar looked to target Mendis and put him away mentally. A step out lofted shot for a six had Mendis ducking under for cover but Sachin got carried away and jumped again out of his crease. He was beaten in the air but still went on with his big shot and could only find the bottom of the bat to get caught at mid off. Tendulkar scored 40 from 91 balls with that lone six. He put on a partnership of 94 with Dravid for the third wicket.

Dravid got another partnership going with Laxman but was unfortunately run out when a smacking drive from the former deflected off the bowler’s hands onto the bowling end stumps. Rahul Dravid (144 from 226 balls with 15 fours and a six) who was backing up at the non-striker’s end was short of his ground. By lunch, Yuvraj Singh too belted a six off Ajantha Medis to show the intentions clearly. He remained unbeaten on 13 from 23 and Laxman is on 24 from 47 balls with 2 fours to take the score to 535 for 4 in 120 overs.
