Former England Coach and also a former Zimbabwean Captain – Duncan Fletcher has been appointed as India Coach by the BCCI for a two-year contract. Fletcher replaces South African Gary Kirtsten under whom India went onto lift the ICC World Cup 2011. The 62-year-old Fletcher got the job ahead of former New Zealand Skipper Stephen Fleming and former Zimbabwean Skipper Andy Flower.

Fletcher is credited to have lifted an otherwise mediocre England team into a terrific fighting unit especially in Test Cricket. It was under Duncan Fletcher that England went onto win The Ashes after a long gap of 18 years in 2005. According to news reports, Fletcher’s first assignment for India will be during the tour of England which begins in July. India is likely to go without a Coach in the upcoming West Indies tour.
