The Test match was once again completed inside three days thanks to India’s tame batting unit. England going into Day 3 had piled up 486 to complete with a first innings lead of 338. Everyone knew that it was only a matter of time before the Indian batsmen surrendered and conceded defeat yet again without any fight.
Joe Root produced 149 not out from just 165 balls as England on the third day smashed the Indian bowlers all around the park. Stuart Broad fresh from a broken nose took his revenge by clattering the bowlers for a 21-ball 37.
India facing a mammoth task of saving the match collapsed in a heap having no answer to the new ball spell of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Chris Jordan helped himself with four wickets in just 4.2 overs to complete the destruction. Only three Indian batsmen got into double figures with the highest scorer being Stuart Binny with 25 not out.
The Man of the Match was Joe Root ahead of the bowlers. The Player of the Series which is given to the best performer for each team went to James Anderson for England and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for India.
