Star batsman Herschelle Gibbs and Fast bowler Andre Nel have been dropped for the upcoming Test Series against India.

The Proteas have named a 14-man squad led by Graeme Smith for this 3-Test Match Series that begins from the 26th. Left hander Ashwell Prince is the Vice-Captain.

While Gibbs’ omission comes because of his struggle to be amongst the runs in the Test format, Andre Nel’s exclusion has raised plenty of eye brows in South Africa.

Andre Nel, himself is fuming at his omission from the side ahead of the coloured Charl Langeveldt. Nel had expressed his displeasure by not attending the Prize Distribution Ceremony at the end of the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh where he was to receive the Man of the Match award.

Cricket South Africa has a policy of selecting 7 coloured players in a touring squad of 15 or more which may have led to the shock exit for Nel. There are strong speculations that he may quit playing for SA and head towards the rebel ICL league in India.

South Africa’s pace attack will be led by the two speedsters – Makhaya Ntini and Dale Steyn. The back up is going to be provided by Morne Morkel, Langeveldt and all rounder Kallis.

SA have also included two frontline spinners, both the left arm spinners – Paul Harris and Robin Peterson.

South Africa’s Squad for the 3-Test Series : Graeme Smith (Captain), Ashwell Prince (Vice-Captain), Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher (Wicket Keeper), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Charl Langeveldt, Neil McKenzie, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn
