Graham Ford ditches BCCI; Will be staying back at Kent!

The BCCI’s hunt for the new India Coach will have to start all from again as Graham Ford has turned down the offer, a one-year contract as India’s Coach which was given to him just two days back. This news was posted by the Kent Cricket Club which was very happy to have their successful man still working. When the seven-man committee ended their meeting at Chennai, it was just a formality as to when Ford was going to leave his duties at Kent and join the Indian team. Now it is a huge embarrassment for the Board with Ford rejecting the offer.

According to the Kent Cricket Club, Graham Ford said that he was very grateful to the Club for allowing him to go to India to find out more about the job of coaching the Indian Team. Ford also said that “I have had a chance to reflect on the offer made by the BCCI and their urgency to fill the vacant position. After careful consideration, I have decided to continue my work here at Kent. This has been a really difficult decision. I am honoured that India have shown such interest in my capabilities, but feel that this is the right decision for me and my family.”

Now the BCCI will have to act fast and pick another man for the job or may be look for a stop gap arrangement as they had done for the Bangladesh Tour by appointing Ravi Shastri as the Cricket Manager. The BCCI working committee is to meet tomorrow at New Delhi. They were supposed to ratify the appointment of Graham Ford if things had gone as per the original plans.
This time around the BCCI had gone in for just the two names for the Coach post which included Dav Whatmore and Graham Ford. Once Whatmore’s name was taken off, the name of John Emburey came out. Both Emburey and Ford had made their presentations before the seven-man committee on the 9th following which Ford was selected. The criticism that has come out now is that why did Graham Ford have to come all the way from UK to India, agree to the BCCI that he was interested in taking up the job and now at the last minute turning his back!
