Sri Lanka had a good post lunch session taking four wickets to halt India’s possible charge towards a massive first innings lead. The good news for India is that the pitch is again starting to take sharp turn and the bounce is very much there for the edges to carry to the slip region. The hosts had another moderate session with 93 runs scored off 27 overs. India have moved onto 629 for 7 in 135 overs with a lead of 236.
Tendulkar was the first to go in the post lunch session when Nuwan Kulasekara’s sharp inswinger forced an inside edge onto the stumps with the batsman shaping up for an expansive cover drive. Sachin made 53 from 103 balls with 6 fours and had put on 71 runs for the 5th wicket with Laxman. It was a very fluent session for VVS Laxman as he found his timing right and runs began to flow very easily for him. Yuvraj Singh’s arrival at the crease promised some entertainment for the crowd.
In a bid to play a big shot in the air for a change, Laxman fell miscuing Murali to straight mid off to depart at a score of 62 (from 91 balls with 8 fours). Yuvraj Singh had a life when Prasanna Jayawardene had spilled a simple stumping chance off Herath. But Yuvraj (23) didn’t last long and gave a flat catch to mid off. Harbhajan Singh also got out in quick succession, dragging a reverse sweep off Murali onto the stumps.
India shut shop towards the end of the session with MS Dhoni (21 from 38 balls) intent on getting the lead around 300 after Tea. Sri Lanka look good to take the remaining three wickets as well and that might prompt the Indian Skipper to go after the bowling after the break. There are 33 overs to be bowled in the final session, two of them will be cut for innings change.
