Javagal Srinath becomes an ICC Match Referee

Former Indian bowling great Javagal Srinath has been appointed as the ICC Match Referee. The former Indian Speedster who is currently a commentator had already served the International Cricket Council in identifying bowlers with flawed actions in the recent U19 World Cup. The Mysore Express as he was known, Srinath had taken 236 Test wickets and 315 ODI wickets. Srinath’s last international match was the 2003 World Cup finals against Australia at Johannesburg. Javagal Srinath along with former West Indies Captain Clive Lloyd and Australia’s Alan Hurst has been selected to the second tier of part time Match Referees. Ranjan Madugalle, Roshan Mahanama (both from Sri Lanka), Chris Broad (England), Mike Procter (South Africa) and Jeff Crowe (New Zealand) have been retained in the Elite panel of full time Match Referees.The role of the Match Referees is to see that the match is conducted smoothly and notifying and fining any players and support staff violating the various ICC codes of conduct.
