Lasith Malinga GalleSri Lanka won the 1st Test at Galle by 10 wickets despite more than two days of rain interruption. Lasith Malinga captured his maiden five-wicket haul on the Lankan soil to see India get bowl out for 338 after following on. Sri Lanka needing just 95 for a win got there in 14.1 overs with Tillkaratne Dilshan making a smashing an unbeaten 68 from 46 balls (with 6 fours and a six).

While Malinga kept on producing unplayable deliveries to take wickets, Murali had to really work hard to accomplish his 800th Test wicket feat. Fittingly he finished off the Indian innings by forcing an edge off no.11 Pragyan Ojha. While overnight batsman – MS Dhoni had a quick exit this morning to a fast inswinger from Malinga, his partner VVS Laxman kept on blocking at the other end for a long time. Laxman got the tail to wag with him – debutant Abhimanyu Mithun batted really well in his company to score 25 from 59 balls in a 49-run stand before getting removed by a Malinga special.

Laxman would go onto add 68 runs for the 9th wicket with Ishant Sharma (31* from 106 balls) before getting run out. Even the last tail-ender Pragyan Ojha did superbly well to bat out 50 balls and with Ishant frustrated the Lankans. Murali had to bowl 44.4 overs to take three wickets but Malinga only had to get his yorkers right. He bowled just the 17 overs for his 5 for 50 and was the Man of the Match.
