Mandeep Singh’s cracking ton puts Punjab in good shape

A cracking unbeaten 158 (from 264 balls with 25 fours) by no.4 Mandeep Singh carried hosts Punjab to 329 for 5 at Stumps on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Match against Uttar Pradesh at Mohali. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Harbhajan Singh led Punjab team got a solid third wicket partnership of 167 between India U19 cricketer Mandeep Singh and the left handed Karan Goel (68 from 141 balls with 11 fours).

For Uttar Pradesh, the wicket taking bowler was Vice-Captain RP Singh who claimed 4 for 60 in 20 overs. Hosts Punjab gave Ranji Trophy Debut for medium pacer Sandeep Sharma who had represented the India U19 team recently.
