Hosts Mumbai Indians survived a scintillating 37-ball century from Yusuf Pathan at the Brabourne Stadium to win their first match of this season by 4 runs. Mumbai Indians thanks to sparkling knocks from youngsters – AT Rayudu (55 from 33 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes) and left handed Saurabh Tiwary (53 from 33 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes) reached 212 for 6!
Rajasthan Royals were out of the chase at 66 for 4 and everything was left on Yusuf Pathan’s shoulders to atleast take the Royals to respectability. But Pathan had other ideas and that was to try and win the match with his monstrous hitting. As many as eight sixes flew off Yusuf’s blade along with 9 fours but just when he had the match under control got run out in a tragic manner off the bowler deflection. He got out on 100 exactly. Lasith Malinga bowled a perfect last over to ensure victory for Mumbai Indians despite a late burst from Paras Dogra (41 from 29 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes).
