Muralitharan GalleIndia are staring at defeat in the first Test at Galle after losing as many as 12 wickets on the fourth day. Following on after getting bundled out for 276 in jusy 65 overs, India are finding themselves on the mat at 181 for 5. They are left with just the pair of VVS Laxman and MS Dhoni to put up any semblence of a fightback on the final day. The deficit is still 63 more runs to wipe out if they have to make Sri Lanka bat again.

Virender Sehwag, the overnight batsman completed his century in the morning but couldn’t stretch his score beyond 109. Yuvraj Singh played a counter attacking knock of 52 and that was all India could offer as the Lankans folded their first innings in just 65 overs. Muttiah Muralitharan bagged his 67th five-wicket haul to finish things up in a hurry.

India’s second innings saw Rahul Dravid (44) and Sachin Tendulkar (84 from 142 balls) put up a solid partnership but Malinga came back with the reverse swinging ball to send both of the well set batsmen to the pavilion. The rest of the batsmen failed to stay for any significant time at the wicket.
