South Africa clinched a thrilling 3-wicket win with two balls to spare chasing 297 against India in the Group B Match at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur.

India batting first after winning the toss got a smashing start from Virender Sehwag (73 from 66 balls with 12 fours) and Sachin Tendulkar (111 from 101 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes). No.3 Gautam Gambhir chipped in with 69 from 75 balls with 7 fours. However, the remaining eight batsmen failed to come up with anything significant as India from a strong position of 267 for 1 in the 40th over collapsed to 296 all out in 48.4 overs. Dale Steyn captured 5 for 50 in 9.4 overs to trigger the collapse.

South Africa in their chase got a solid foundation thanks to half centuries from Hashim Amla (61 from 72 balls with 5 fours) and Jacques Kallis (69 from 88 balls with 4 fours). It was a breezy partnership between AB de Villiers (52 from 39 balls with 6 fours and a six) and JP Duminy (23 from 20 balls) that made sure that the required run rate was brought down to the comfort levels. In the end, it was Faf du Plessis (25* from 23 balls) and Robin Peterson (18* from 7 balls with 2 fours and a six) finishing the match in style with Ashish Nehra bowling a poor last over.

For India, the most successful bowler was Harbhajan Singh for a change taking 3 for 53 in 9 overs. The Man of the Match award went to Dale Steyn for his clinical blows during the Indian innings.
