Sachin Tendulkar has finally become the highest run getter in Test Cricket after going past Brian Lara’s 11953 runs during the afternoon session of the ongoing Second Test at Mohali. The record breaking moment came during the first ball of the 52nd over when Tendulkar steered debutant fast bowler Peter Siddle towards thirdman for three runs.

Although there was a tiny crowd less than 5000, the moment was celebrated by fireworks arranged by the Punjab Cricket Association. It probably was a never such scene in a Test Match ever with fireworks causing a hold up in play. Tendulkar and Ganguly did quite well not to lose their concentration after all the distractions and went onto put on 142 runs for the 4th wicket. India ended the first day of the Mohali Test at 311 for 5 with Tendulkar scoring 88 and Ganguly, an unbeaten 54 during which he had crossed 7000 Test runs.

As far as comparison goes, Lara scored his runs in 232 innings while Tendulkar in 247 innings. Sachin Tendulkar started his international career way back in 1989 as a 16-year-old and has since gone onto become the highest run getter in One Day Internationals and now for the first time holding the same record in Test Cricket.
