India has raced away to 92 for no loss in 18 overs having bowled out Sri Lanka for 393. Murali Vijay is batting in a composed manner on 38 (from 49 balls with 5 fours) and his partner Virender Sehwag is trying to wipe out the first innings deficit as quickly as possible with his 53 (from 60 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes). Both the opening batsmen haven’t been troubled at all by any bowler including Muttiah Muralidaran.

Sri Lanka started the second day’s play at 366 for 8 with Angelo Mathews on 86. The all-rounder quickly moved into the 90s and was desperately looking to convert a single into a second to get to his maiden test hundred. But unfortunately the young man found a flat throw over the stumps from Tendulkar at deep backward squareleg which found him a few centimeters short of the crease. Mathews was heartbroken as he got run out for 99! His knock came in 131 balls with 15 fours.

Pragyan Ojha finished the Lankan innings by pinning back Welegedara and striking the pad in line of leg and middle. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 393 in 94.4 overs. The Indian openers – Vijay and Sehwag came out and played elegant cricket to stamp their authority on the bowlers. Vijay was very sweet with his timing and his technique to both the pacers and spinners has been near perfect. Even the turning ball from Rangana Herath couldn’t get past his defences. There was just one edge from Vijay that was at the most a half chance to slip off Herath.

Sehwag at the other end was sensible and very selective with his shot making. Herath was given special treatment as he got whacked for two clean sixes over mid on by Sehwag who has raced away to a 20th test fifty.
