SL bag ‘Spirit of Cricket Award’; Ponting named skipper of World teams

Mahela Jayawardene’s Sri Lanka bagged the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ award for its good on-field behaviour. Jonty Rhodes, one of the greatest fielders all time presented the award to Mahela Jayawardene who had competition from Australia, New Zealand and surprisingly Ireland! Sri Lanka, the runners-up of the 2007 World Cup in West Indies had a close contest with New Zealand.

The ICC has also announced its World Test and ODI teams which were selected by a panel headed by former Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar. Twelve players were picked for each side. Ricky Ponting has been named as the Captain of both the sides.
