Visakhapatnam is set to host its first ever Day Night ODI on the 18th of this month but the match is in serious doubt due to the hostile environment prevailing in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The Vizag region along with other parts of the state has been seeing various agitations going on to protest the Indian Government’s decision of granting a separate state for Telangana by dividing Andhra Pradesh. The state has been engulfed in a political crisis since the last three days with mass resignations of Members of Legislative Assembly and a few Members of Parliament.

A group by the name of ‘Jai Andhra’ along with students from the Andhra University had declared that they would prevent the One Day International from taking place in Vizag as a mark of protest. The Andhra Cricket Association officials are in fix because of this. The city of Visakhapatnam is already observing a 2-day bandh.

The venue of the 2nd ODI which is the ACA-VDCA Stadium has been recently named after the late former Chief Minister of AP – Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) and has a seating capacity of 26,000. Cricket lovers in Vizag were treated by a blistering knock of 148 from MS Dhoni when he first arrived in international cricket in 2004/05.
