Murali Vijay showed his potential as a long term One Day player for India by striking an entertaining 78 from just 39 balls to help Chennai Super Kings defeat RCB. Vijay showcased his ability to hit the ball big in his half-a-dozen sixes though all of them were struck with sheer timing and class.

Chennai Super Kings on their home turf chased down a moderate target of 163 by 5 wickets and an over to spare. Suresh Raina remained unbeaten on a 35-ball 44 in the chase. CSK’s victory was largely because of Vijay’s lovely knock and it came despite some tight bowling from Dale Steyn (4-0-20-1) and Anil Kumble (4-0-16-1).

It was a much needed victory for CSK which was set up by a wonderful spell of 2 for 17 from 4 overs by left arm spinner Shadab Jakati. Yet again, Jacques Kallis was the top scorer for RCB, this time scoring a slightly slow 52 from 49 balls.
