India fought back strongly on Day 3 of the 1st Test Match by putting on a much improved 2nd innings display. Wasim Jaffer led India’s reply by scoring an unbeaten hundred and India at stumps on the second day’s play are well placed at 215 for 2. The lead for India is 85 and they look good to stretch that on the 4th day. Giving Jaffer the company is skipper Dravid who is batting on 25.

Earlier in the day, India bowled out Windies for 371 with the homeside managing to add 53 runs to their overnight total of 318 for 6. Munaf Patel bowled brilliantly to pick up his 3rd wicket and VRV Singh bowled plenty of nasty short ones to take a couple of wickets. And Anil Kumble with his skidder got Collymore lbw to end the West Indian innings. India in their reply were trailing by 130 runs and they got off to a terrific start from its opening batsmen, who put on 72 for the 1st wicket. Fidel Edwards was breathing fire as he was rattling up Sehwag with some hostile short pitched deliveries. But he pulled his hamstring in going for the extra effort each and every delivery and he had to leave the field without finishing his 6th over. Had Fidel Edwards been bowling, it could have been a different story altogether for the West Indies. India had lost Sehwag and no.3 VVS Laxman in their reply. Sehwag was done in once again by Collymore’s outswinger and Laxman lost his concentration getting out miscuing an attempted slog sweep of the bowling of Dave Mohammed.

India were down and out for two full days and today it was their chance to turn the tables on the West Indies. It has been solid batting from Wasim Jaffer who was driving the ball beautifully on most occasions. West Indies can still bowl well in the 1st session of tomorrow’s play and India would look to guard against that.
