West Indies have named a 13-man squad to face India in the first two ODIs to be played in Kingston, Jamaica this week. The 4-match Digicel One Day International Series begins from the 26th of this month. The squad doesn’t have the name of fast bowler Fidel Edwards who is recovering from a lower back injury sustained during the T20 World Championship.

Chris Gayle has been named as the Skipper while wicket keeper Denesh Ramdin will continue to be the Vice-Captain. The Squad has a new inclusion in Darren Bravo, the younger brother of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. Darren unlike his brother is a left handed batsman and he bowls the occasional left arm medium pace. Darren too like his brother Dwayne represents Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies first class tournaments. The 20-year-old Darren Bravo was part of the West Indies U-19 team in the 2008 U-19 World Cup in Malaysia.

Also making it to the team is left handed batsman Narsingh Deonarine from Guyana. Deonarine gets a recall to the team after a gap of two years. The left handed middle order bat can also chip in with some useful off breaks. But what was surprising was the axing of the talented Lendl Simmons who did show some good potential in the T20 World Cup. Also axed is all-rounder Kieron Pollard who didn’t perform that well in the same tournament. Darren Sammy has also been ignored from the Squad.

West Indies Squad for the first two ODIs on June 26th and 28th : Chris Gayle (Captain), Denesh Ramdin (WK), Lionel Baker, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Sulieman Benn, David Bernard, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Runako Morton, Ravi Rampaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Jerome Taylor
