Reliance World Cup 1987 in India & Pakistan : Cricket Archives

The Reliance World Cup 1987 was the fourth edition of the Cricket’s Biggest Tournament and it was the first of its kind to be held outside England! This World Cup was played in India and Pakistan with the matches reduced to 50 overs per side contest. Like in the previous World Cup, eight teams participated and were divided into four groups and each side would then play the other twice.

Australia under the leadership of Allan Border emerged as the new World Cup winner when they defeat Ashes rival – England in the Final at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta. Just the 7 runs were the difference between the two sides in an exciting finish.
