Daniel VettoriNew Zealand survived a scare against minnows Ireland in the Warm-Up Match at Nagpur on Saturday. Chasing a high target of 312 set by the Kiwis, Ireland finished very close at 279 to eventually go down fighting by 32 runs. New Zealand had earlier posted 311 for 6 with opener Martin Guptill cracking 130 from 134 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes.

Ireland’s hopes in the run chase were carried by Skipper William Porterfield who opened the innings to score 72 from 74 balls with 8 fours and a six. After his dismissal though, Ireland lost the steam and were in the end bowled out for 279. Kyle Mills took three wickets while Skipper Daniel Vettori literally rescued the Kiwis with his 4 for 42 in 10 overs.
