New Zealand confirmed their entry into the Super Eights by thrashing Zimbabwe in a rain-affected game at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Put to bat first by Daniel Vettori, Zimbabwe after a healthy start of 36 for 0 crashed to 84 all out in 15.1 overs on a turning pitch. Off Spinner Nathan McCullum and Scott Styris did the demolition job taking three wickets each.

The Kiwis were declared winners on Duckworth/Lewis Method by 7 runs with rain ensuring that not more than 8.1 overs were possible in the second half. NZ were well placed at 36 for 1 during the stoppage.
