Pakistan smash New Zealand by 138 runs in first ODI

Pakistan took the opening game of the Cool and Cool Cup at abu Dhabi by defeating New Zealand black and blue by 138 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan went onto smash 287 on the board with Shahid Afridi playing a breezy knock of 70 from 50 balls (with 4 fours and 3 sixes) while Kamran Akmal gave the finishing touches with a magical 67 from 43 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Pakistan had a sluggish start with 0 for 2 and later 75 for 4 in the 24th over when Shahid Afridi entered the ground to change the match on its head.

The Pakistani bowling was unplayable for the Kiwis starting with the new ball pair of Mohammad Aamer-Umar Gul followed up by the spin combination of Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi. The Kiwis could reply with a paltry 149 all out in 39.2 overs. Shahid Afridi who almost clinched a hat-trick picked up the Man of the Match award.
