Shakib’s all-round show leads Tigers in upset win over Kiwis

Bangladesh caused an upset in the 1st ODI against New Zealand at Mirpur by winning the rain-affected contest by 9 runs. New Zealand chasing a moderate target of 229 from 50 overs got off to a splendid start from opener Brendon McCullum who scored a rapid 61 from 45 balls. But then slipped to 85 for 4 in 15 overs before rain interruption forced the target to be revised to 210 from 37 overs!

In the end, New Zealand were restricted to 200 for 8 in 37 overs with Shakib Al Hasan capturing 4 for 41. Earlier, Bangladesh who won the toss and elected to bat first were bowled out for 228 with Shakib Al Hasan top scoring with 58 from 51 balls. For the Kiwis, Kyle Mills picked up three wickets while Andy McKay, Daniel Vettori and Jesse Ryder took two each.
