Australia leveled the 5-ODI Series Chappell-Hadlee Trophy with a 12-run win in the second ODI at the Eden Park. New Zealand chasing a D/L Target of 266 in 45 overs were hopelessly out of the contest at 131 for 6 but thanks to a magic knock of 70 from 49 balls (with 8 fours and 2 sixes) from Skipper Daniel Vettori ended up with 253 all out. Ryan Harris with 3 for 34 and Johnson with 4 for 51 bowled Australia to the series-leveling win.
The visitors had earlier recovered from 116 for 4 to put up 273 for 7 in 50 overs. Brad Haddin (53), Cameron White (54) and Michael Hussey (56) were the batting heroes for Australia. Vettori got the consolation of being the Man of the Match.
