Australia was made to work extremely hard to achieve the 5-o cleansweep with Pakistan finally showing some spirit on the park. The Aussies chased a moderate target of 213 with four balls to spare and just the two wickets in hand. Michael Hussey played the finisher yet again to take Australia home. He scored an unbeaten 40 from 46 balls when the match hung in the balance on a not-so-easy batting pitch at the WACA. Ricky Ponting provided the comfort for the chasing side scoring 55 from 78 balls.

Pakistan were earlier bowled out for 212 which was a good recovery considering that they lost their first two wickets without any runs on the board. Umar Akmal (67 from 102 balls) and Fawad Alam (63 from 70 balls) brought energy to the down and out Pakistanis. Ryan Harris took three wickets and Clint McKay who got four wickets was given the Man of the Match award. Harris picked up the Man of the Series award.

The visitors were led by Shahid Afridi with Mohammad Yousuf sitting out due to sore knees. Afridi bowled superbly without much luck but was involved in a major controversy during the fag end of the match. The standing Pakistani Captain was caught on camera biting the ball! He has been given a ban of two Twenty20 Internationals after a hearing with ICC Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle after the match. There was another incident during the run chase when one of the spectators rushed in onto the field and jabbed down Khalid Latif from behind.
