Salman Butt HobartPakistan were bowled out for 301 in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 519 for 8 declared. Although the hosts were in a position to enforce a follow on, they decided against it to stretch their second innings lead to 277 with 9 wickets in hand by Stumps on Day 3 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The visitors resuming the day’s play at 94 for 4 lost quick wickets once the 5th wicket stand between Salman Butt (102 from 234 balls with 17 fours) and Shoaib Malik (58 from 144 balls with 10 fours) got broken. Pakistan had an unexpected fightback towards the end of the innings through a 53-run stand for the last wicket between Umar Gul (38 not out from 56 balls with a four and three sixes) and Mohammad Asif (29).

Australia in their second innings are at 59 for 1 in 18 overs losing Shane Watson cheaply to Mohammad Aamer.
