Pakistan look good at 114 for 1 in their second innings after being set a high target of 440 in the opening Test at Lord’s. Australia would consider lucky that they could finish with 334 in their second innings after starting the third day’s play at a shaky 100 for 4. Simon Katich with 83, Tim Paine with 47 and no. 10 Ben Hilfenhaus with 56 (a maiden Test Match fifty) were instrumental in Australia getting the much needed cushion of runs.

The pitch played at its best and the ball hardly moved off the seam and just didn’t swing around. Salman Butt notched up his second fifty of the match and is unbeaten on 58 (from 118 balls with 9 fours) in the company of debutant right hander Azhar Ali (28*). Pakistan have so far batted out 37 overs losing just Imran Farhat.
