| Vaughan,
Collingwood resign as England Captains |
August
03, 2008
Michael Vaughan and Paul Collingwood have given
a double jolt to English Cricket when the duo announced their
resignation as England Captains. Vaughan's decision to quit as
England's Test Captain comes after a Test Series defeat
against South Africa. Collingwood on the other hand has cited
that he was quitting his One Day Captaincy to concentrate on
his batting. England is likely to have Kevin Pietersen to
Captain both the Test and the One Day teams.
Michael Vaughan, who has led England for
almost five years has requested the Selectors to give him a
break from
the final Test at The Oval. Vaughan has stated
that he would freshen himself and come back as a pure batsman
in the Test Team and hope to prolong his Test Career.
Vaughan's career had taken a beating because of a serious knee
injury which put him out of action for quite some time. He
will be remembered in English Cricket history for the great
Ashes victory in 2005.
For Collingwood, it has been a brief
captaincy stint which has lasted just about an year. England
is expected to announce the fourth Test Squad and also the One
Day Series Squad along with the Captaincy replacement for
Vaughan and Collingwood on Monday.
