| Broad
devastates Proteas in second ODI |
August 26, 2008
Stuart Broad's maiden five-wicket haul made a
complete mockery of what was the first One Day International
under lights at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. South Africa, who
won the toss and batted first were in for a humiliating couple
of hours as they folded to 83 all out. England chased the runs
down even before the lights could get into full glow. The
100-over match lasted just over 37 overs!
South Africa found no reprieve at all once
they lost four wickets to Broad within the 10 overs. Andrew
Flintoff and
Steve Harmison complemented Broad's efforts by
wiping out the rest of the SA batting. The South African
innings was without any significant resistance and had lasted
just 23 overs. Stuart Broad had a dream figures of 10-3-23-5
while Flintoff got 7-0-29-3. Harmison, the other wicket taker
got a couple of them bowling just the one over. Only three
South African batsmen got into double figures with Andre Nel
being the highest scorer with his 13.
England got the runs without losing a wicket
in 14.1 overs. Ian Bell provided the stability with his
51-ball 28 while Matt Prior took care of getting the runs in a
hurry through his 45 that came in 36 balls with 6 fours and a
six. Broad was obviously the Man of the Match.
