Rain curtailed action on the third day’s play at Lord’s in the Second Test between England and Sri Lanka. When rain had the last laugh during its second intervention, Sri Lanka were battling at 377 for 3 in 102.2 overs with Mahela Jayawardene on 40* (from 69 balls with 7 fours) along with Thilan Samaraweera who barely opened his account. Sri Lanka trail behind by 114 runs when play was abandoned following a steady shower along with bad light conditions.

Sri Lanka had resumed Day 3 at 231 for 1 with Skipper Dilshan being the key player batting on 127. His overnight partner – Kumar Sangakkara (26 from 93 balls) lost his wicket in the first over of the second new ball which was taken as and when it was available. Sangakkara was forced to nick an away going delivery on the frontfoot from Chris Tremlett to the wicket keeper to end what was an 81-run partnership.

After Lunch, Tillakaratne Dilshan lost his wicket when he was just two hits away from a double century as he got cleaned up by a lovely Steven Finn delivery which brought him forward in defence but nipped back through the gate. Dilshan fell for 193 which came in only 253 balls with 20 fours and 2 sixes. Dilshan added 82 runs with Mahela Jayawardene who was very fluent in his unbeaten 40 from 69 balls which had 7 fours.
