Dilshan ton leads fitting reply for visitors

Skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan scored an unbeaten century to power Sri Lanka to an impressive 231 for 1 by the completion of the second day’s play of the 2nd Test at Lord’s. It was a fitting reply by the visitors having bowled out England to 486.

Overnight batsman – Matt Prior went onto score 126 while his partner Stuart Broad chipped in with 54 from 51 balls with 9 fours as England from a first day’s score of 342 for 6 finished at 486. Left arm pacer Chanaka Welegedara was the most successful bowler taking 4 for 122 and his new ball partner – Suranga Lakmal took 3 for 126 for the visitors.

Sri Lanka in their first innings saw through 63 overs of the second day’s play losing just the wicket of the left handed Tharanga Paranavitana who scored a patient 65 from 184 balls with 10 fours. Paranavitana helped Dilshan to put up an opening stand of 207. By the close of play, former Skipper Kumar Sangakkara gave Dilshan the company with an unbeaten 13 as SL brought the deficit down to 255 runs.
