Sangakkara, Dilshan set Lanka towards big total at Sharjah

Kumar Sangakkara Sharjah TestSri Lanka who are in a desperate need to win the 3rd Test at Sharjah to draw the Series have ended the opening day’s play at a solid 245 for 2 in 86 overs. Despite losing a wicket in the very first over of the match, Sri Lanka bounced back through a big partnership of 173 between Skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara.

Dilshan who opened the innings with Paranavitana fell for 92 (from 168 balls with 12 fours and a six) in the 61st over of the day. His partner in the big partnership – Kumar Sangakkara batted through the rest of the day to remain unbeaten on 112 (from 263 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes). This is Sangakkara’s 27th Test hundred. Giving him company in the fag end of the day was another former Skipper – Mahela Jayawardene who is on 32* (from 82 balls with 2 fours) in what is an unbroken stand of 67 for the 3rd wicket.

Sri Lanka have given Test Debut for the 26-year-old and 6ft 1in tall Kosala Kulasekara who is considered to be a batting all-rounder like Angelo Matthews.
