Pragyan Ojha captured 5 for 40

West Indies were bundled out for just 182 in 55.2 overs in the opening day’s play of the Second and Final Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sachin Tendulkar gave a perfect finish surviving on 38 not out in what is his 200th and also the last Test match of his illustrious career. India are in the driver’s seat already with just another 25 runs needed to get into a first innings lead.

The tourists made two changes to their team with Narsingh Deonarine and Shannon Gabriel taking the places of Veerasammy Permaul and Sheldon Cottrell respectively. India with an unchanged team won the toss and decided to bowl first on a pitch that had some grass cover and was quite fresh for the seamers.

After losing Gayle to Mohammed Shami in the 6th over, the West Indies struggled to dominate the game. And by Tea, the innings came to an end all in a hurry. The ball turned with bounce for the Indian spinners on the first day itself. Pragyan Ojha was the most successful bowler capturing 5 for 40 in just 11.2 overs. R Ashwin, bowled well for his 3 for 45. The two pacers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the prized wickets of Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul respectively. The top scorer for West Indies was opener Kieran Powell with 48.

India had a strong opening start of 77 in just 13.2 overs. Shikhar Dhawan (33) threw his wicket away with an overconfident sweep off Shane Shillingford. His opening partner Murali Vijay looked set on 43 when he was caught at leg gully off the same bowler. Sachin Tendulkar walked in with India at 77 for 2 to join Cheteshwar Pujara. The pair took India to a solid 157 for 2 in 34 overs at stumps with Tendulkar on 38* and Pujara on 34*.
