Shannon Gabriel has been called up by the touring West Indies to replace their tear away quick Kemar Roach in the ongoing India Series. Kemar Roach, who has the ability to clock speeds of 145 kmph had missed out during the First Test at Kolkata because of a shoulder strain. The fast bowler has flown back to the Caribbean and will not take any further part in the Indian tour.

West Indies team physiotherapist C.J. Clark said: “Kemar has not made the expected recovery from the shoulder injury that kept him out of the first Test and he is returning to the Caribbean for ongoing management and subsequent physical rehabilitation.”

Ottis Gibson, the Coach of West Indies said: “We’re sad to announce that Kemar has to return home to the Caribbean and will not have an opportunity on this tour, where we felt he could have made a major difference.”

Roach’s replacement is Shannon Gabriel, the 25-year-old fast medium bowler from Trinidad and Tobago. Gabriel has played 3 Tests for the West Indies taking 10 wickets. Gabriel stands a good chance of playing in the Mumbai Test as the West Indies could drop left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who was hardly effective. Permaul failed to impress in the First Test at Kolkata but he did take the big wicket of Rohit Sharma but only after the batsman had scored 177 on Test Debut.
