India need to score a challenging target of 264 in the Third and Final ODI at Kanpur to win the 3-match Series. West Indies battled quite well in the early morning seaming conditions to come up with a healthy total of 263 for 5 after losing the toss.

Opener Kieran Powell with 70 (from 81 balls with 9 fours) and no.3 Marlon Samuels with 71 (from 93 balls with 7 fours and a six) provided a solid platform for West Indies with their second wicket partnership of 117.

West Indies were in a spot of bother at the start of the slog overs losing three wickets in the space of six overs or so. But thanks to a superb partnership from Darren Bravo and Darren Sammy, the visitors not only recovered but pounded plenty of runs towards the end. Darren Bravo played a matured knock of 51 not out from 53 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Darren Sammy played the knock that made the difference, with 37 not out in 29 balls with a four and 2 sixes.

R Aswhin bowled very well in testing conditions taking 2 for 45 in 10 overs. The off spinner got the wickets of the well set Kieran Powell (caught at short fine leg, top edging a sweep) and Marlon Samuels (bowled through the gate by a spinning off break). On a pitch that was conducive for the seamers, especially at the start, the pace trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami failed to do much damage to the West Indies. Bhuvneshwar promised a lot by giving an early wicket of the dangerous Johnson Charles with a beautiful inswinger that uprooted the batsman’s leg stump. The Indian seamers did produce a few edges but the ball often fell short of the slips or the keeper!
